My name is Dr. Craig Singer and I have been a Chiropractor for twenty years. Through my professional training and personal experience in practice, there are things that I know work well. When dealing with acute injuries we are taught and then practice the basic philosophy of cooling down an area to reduce, reverse and prevent the inflammatory process. That has not changed and will not in the foreseeable future. When an injury is diagnosed (history, inspection, palpation, range of motion, orthopedic, neurologic, x-ray, and lab) you set forth a plan. Once a cooling protocol is set in motion, how you implement it can effect your patient’s outcome.

I am a great proponent and advocate of cooling/icing. I ice everything that is acute and preach home icing to my patients from day one. I even hand out home care, personal ice packs as they leave the office. Now as any health care provider knows, there are risks involved that must be discussed with patients and icing is no exception. You can get minor frostbite in some patients who don’t listen and frostbite is hard to explain in the state of Florida (especially to your malpractice carrier). Worse yet, extreme vasoconstriction of vessels during icing can damage tissue, further delaying healing. There are also patients who won’t ice, are generally non compliant and do not follow home care instructions very well. Non-compliance is a big determining factor in overall patient outcomes and recovery. As Doctors we can only manage our plans and hope for the best.

One day a patient introduced me to physicool. A re-usable wrap that combines cooling, compression, and support to an affected area. It is safe and effective in reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation in muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries. Simple application of this unique bandage can cool temperatures up to 50 degrees in 15 minutes, and last up to two hours before easily being recharged for continued multiple applications. Physicool has been used worldwide for several years and has a proven track record. Not only is it simple to use, but also I put it on before the patients leave so I know they are being compliant. I even recharge the patient’s bandages when if they wear it in on the next visit. I feel Physicool has changed my practice, and patient outcomes. I have made Physicool an integral part of my practice.

Many people definitely like staying in shape and one way of doing that is to do regular exercise including running. Such exercise gives a lot of benefits to our health and it provides a lifetime of enjoyment, challenges and purpose. However, if you have an underlying lower back problem, doing this activity can cause injuries that can make your low back pain even worse or can lead to additional types of pain such as or leg pain. The stress in your back may be caused by the constant pounding of your feet where shock waves can reach up to your spine.

The causes of experiencing low back pain while running may be due to some contributing factors such as wearing inappropriate shoes, trying to stay upright, pushing forward to run, bouncing too much, and carrying an injury while running. It is important to check these things to know what could be the possible cause for your back ache.

For runners, the most common cause of back pain is a muscular strain. Other contributing factors may include weak muscles in the abdomen and back, tight hamstrings, and imbalance between the feet or legs which leads to an imbalance in weight that can eventually result to low back pain. To find out what really causes your low back pain, setting up an appointment with your chiropractor is the right thing to do.

Chiropractors can be able to identify the proper areas involved with your low back pain due to running, and can provide necessary treatment appropriate for you. It is the aim of every chiropractor to restore the normal function to your joints, muscles, and your nervous system to increase control, coordination, and muscle strength.

To relieve the low back pain caused by running, a chiropractor uses gentle manipulation and adjustment techniques to free stiff joints, restore normal movement, and eliminate spinal irritation. Modalities such as ultrasound and interferential treatment may also be used. Chiropractic treatment is usually painless, although little pain and discomfort around the affected area may be felt, but these would last for only a short period of time.

Before you go back to running, consider some simple things to prevent the pain from coming back. Start off with some simple stretches before and after running. Work with your feet by rolling it for a smoother stride. Keep a proper posture when you run where your head and back must be perfectly aligned. And also, consider wearing running shoes that can really provide the best support.

Low back pain affects your running but you can continue to run if it does not worsen your pain. It is even more stressful for your back by just sitting alone. If you are not at ease with running, then you may try other activities such as swimming, cycling, or just walking so you can stay fit and keep motivated. Your chiropractor may recommend these along with diet and lifestyle modifications so you can fully enjoy your favorite activity without the aches and pains to bother you.

Auto accident injuries can be completely devastating. They can limit your mobility and keep you from going to work. Depending on the severity of these injuries one may feel pain in all viagraas of their body for many years and in some cases for the rest of one’s life.

The one type of injury associated with a car wreck is whiplash, but there are other injuries one can sustain as well. Even minor fender benders can produce pain in the back, neck, hips and shoulders. Some people even suffer from chronic headaches after such an accident.

The pain results from the way the body is slammed about, often being violently jerked forwards and backwards in an instant. Even when you are rear ended at a low speed your muscles can get pulled and damaged.

How does a trip to a chiropractic clinic help these problems, you may ask? Well they have treatments which can manipulate your back muscles and your spine. They are your core muscles so when your chiropractor gets these back into alignment and relaxed then the surrounding muscles follow suit.

Also, typically when your muscles are in a tense ball then the blood flow is restricted. Blood flow is a major healing agent. So anytime chiropractors can get more openness in your spine and back muscles you heal more quickly.

Your back and spine rarely fix themselves so some trips to your local chiropractor right after a car accident is your best way to not suffer long-term damage and chronic pain.

A licensed chiropractor has all the equipment needed to give you your treatments right there in their office. By addressing these traumas early you may prevent painful back spasms and pain.

When adjusting your back the muscles respond much like having a massage, except in a massage or even a physical therapy session your spine does not get adjusted also. That is why a chiropractor is a better deal for your time and money.

Check with a chiropractic clinic to see if your insurance covers these types of treatments. Often injuries suffered in an auto accident are covered, but you’ll want to make sure before you go. Even if they are not covered however, they are worth your time and money in order to avoid chronic pain.
