Why So Many Personal Injury Victims Seek Out Chiropractic Care

Why So Many Personal Injury Victims Seek Out Chiropractic Care

If you have been injured in an accident, chiropractic care may be the most effective course of treatment for your symptoms. Many personal injury victims gain more relief from working with a chiropractor than a medical doctor.

Here are the main reasons a chiropractor may be the best choice for you if you have been injured.

Fast, Effective Results

Why do so many people seek chiropractic care after personal injuries occur? The simple truth is that they experience faster, more effective results.

One four-week study compared patients who received prescription medication from a traditional doctor after an accident with patients who had spinal adjustments by a chiropractor. After the four weeks were over, a little over half of those who saw a medical doctor reported a 30% reduction in pain levels. Of those receiving chiropractic treatment, though, over 90 percent experienced the same reduction in pain levels.

That’s a significant difference and a primary reason why chiropractic care can be more effective for personal injury victims.

Good for Soft Tissue Injuries

For victims of car accidents, chiropractic care may be particularly helpful. Many car accident victims experience soft tissue injuries, which are not visible to the naked eye. These injuries cause pain in the neck, arms, shoulders or back, which can worsen over time. Chiropractors work to correct the spine’s alignment, which can help the body heal itself.

Helps with Whiplash

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries sustained in a car crash. It occurs when the head snaps forward quickly and violently upon sudden impact. Whiplash can occur even in low-speed accidents, and its symptoms may not appear right away. You may be suffering from the effects of whiplash if you are experiencing any of these symptoms:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Neck pain
  • Neck stiffness
  • Arm pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Vision problems

Alleviates Ongoing Pain

You should always seek emergency care as soon as possible after an accident, but don’t let your treatment stop there. If you begin a course of chiropractic care soon afterward, you can significantly reduce ongoing pain.

For example, several studies have noted these continuing pain levels after car accidents:

  • Six weeks afterward, 70 percent of victims still have pain.
  • Three months later, about 50 percent of victims still have pain.
  • Six months later, about 25 percent of victims still have pain.

If you want to experience an 80 percent or higher reduction in your pain symptoms, and experience them faster, chiropractic care may be your best bet.

Treatment Matches Type of Injuries

The type of injuries you may suffer in an accident are likely to match the treatments chiropractors perform best. A chiropractor will manipulate your vertebrae to restore spinal alignment. When your spine is out of alignment, you may experience a host of health problems, including chronic pain and inflammation. By realigning your spine, your inflammation is relieved, and your immune system can refocus on healing your injury.

Here are three benefits you can expect from spinal manipulation after an injury:

  1. Pain relief. As noted above, soft tissue injuries can cause weeks or months of pain. Yet chiropractic care can speed up the process and offer non-addictive pain relief as opposed to prescription painkillers.
  2. Improved range of motion. Your neck, shoulders, or back may be stiff and sore after an accident, which may limit your mobility. An experienced chiropractor will provide therapeutic treatment and massages to get you moving again.
  3. Restored health. Chiropractors offer physical therapy along with nutritional advice to maximize your body’s natural healing process and improve your strength.

Help with Injury Claims

Accident Injury Claim

Another benefit to working with a chiropractor after a personal injury is that they will work closely with your personal injury attorney to complete necessary documentation for your case. Since chiropractors treat one-third of all personal injury victims, they are well-versed in diagnoses of injuries directly related to an accident as well as the cost of the treatments to alleviate your symptoms. This information will factor into the amount of damages you may be able to receive from the responsible party.

A Willingness to Refer You

Chiropractors also know whether their treatments will heal your injuries, or if you need to be referred to a specialist for further treatment or surgery. Your chiropractor has your best interests in mind after an accident, so you can trust him or her to help you, even if they need to form a team with another medical professional.

Are you suffering after a personal injury? It may be time to schedule a chiropractic appointment to get the relief you need.
