Benefits of Hydromassage in Helping You Heal

Benefits of Hydromassage in Helping You Heal

If you have recently experienced an injury, or if you are dealing with chronic pain or stress, hydromassage may be the perfect solution for you. Learn more about how hydromassage can help you in just 10 to 15 minutes per day, without needing to get wet or spend a lot of money.

What Is Hydromassage?

Hydromassage is an easy and effective way to experience the benefits of massage. The ancient Greeks and Romans used warm water immersion as a healing source for body, mind, and spirit. Hydromassage builds upon that ancient concept and offers modern-day benefits in a convenient format.

During a hydromassage, pressurized jets of heated water move over your body. You lie fully clothed on a bed with a waterproof barrier and simply enjoy the pulses of the massage on all sides of your body. You can customize the jets to place the water pressure right where you are experiencing pain.

What Is the Difference between Hydromassage and Regular Massage?

Hydromassage has the same feeling and benefits you experience with a hand massage, but you can enjoy them without the time constraint and the extra hassle.

How so? A hand massage can take 30 to 60 minutes to complete, and you must be partially undressed. Hydromassage takes only 10 to 15 minutes and you can remain fully clothed.

You can fit hydromassage into your lunch hour or workout routine.  You can also watch television or listen to music during your hydromassage and add to your enjoyment.

Another difference is that hydromassage uses water heated to a certain temperature. The heat can penetrate deeply into your tissues to provide pain relief and healing.

What Conditions are Helped with Hydromassage?

Many different physical conditions and ailments can improve with hydromassage. Here is a list of the ways hydromassage heals and which conditions are helped the most.

Pain reduction

The water jets in a hydromassage table are more powerful than those in an average whirlpool tub. The water temperature is also warmer. The jets and warm water deliver oxygen to your muscles and take pressure off of joints and sore muscles. Those who suffer from fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic inflammation, and joint pain can experience pain relief through hydromassage.

Improved circulation

The warm water promotes blood circulation in the muscles. Athletes and weight lifters can experience better muscle warm up and recovery through hydromassage. Anyone with tight muscles or knots will experience relief.

Stress and anxiety relief

Hydromassage has been proven to promote relaxation and cell renewal. It can also boost your mood with no medicinal side effects. People with chronic anxiety can be soothed by hydromassage, as can those with high blood pressure, digestive issues, or migraines.

Sleep issues

If you experience insomnia or low-quality sleep, hydromassage can help you overcome them. When your body temperature drops, your brain receives the signal for initiating sleep. Hydromassage temporarily raises your body temperature, and the drop-in temperature afterward can cue your body for rest. If you have aches and pains that keep you up at night, hydromassage can relieve them so you can get more restful sleep.

Toxin release

The gentle pressure of the water is strong enough to push toxins out of muscles and soft tissues, so the body can release them. Hydromassage promotes circulation in the lymphatic system, which helps remove wastes. This can be helpful for people who have high levels of cortisol (a stress hormone) or exposure to harmful chemicals.

Who Can Have a Hydromassage?

Almost anyone can enjoy a hydromassage, but you need to check with your doctor first if you have high blood pressure or irregular heart rhythms, if you are recovering from surgery, if you have been recently injured, or if you are pregnant. It’s also best to skip a hydromassage session if you have recently consumed alcohol or if you have just eaten a heavy meal.

Patients who need a spinal manipulation can benefit from hydromassage before an adjustment. The warm water will relax muscles and can make the adjustment easier.

If you have a neck injury, TMJ, lower back pain, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, lupus, or tendonitis, hydromassage is excellent therapy for your condition. Any of the conditions mentioned above will also be helped significantly with hydromassage. It’s an affordable option without the side effects of over-the-counter or prescription drug treatments.

Stop by our clinic or give us a call today to set up your first hydromassage appointment. By receiving regular treatments, you will feel less pain and more relaxation in only 10 to 15 minutes per session.
