What Do Exercise and Nutrition Have to Do with Chiropractic Care?

What Do Exercise and Nutrition Have to Do with Chiropractic Care?

We’ve all heard that the key to leading a long, healthy life is getting enough exercise and eating balanced, nutritious foods. Well, did you also know that exercise and nutrition can also help when it comes to chiropractic care?

It’s true! Combining exercise, nutrition, and chiropractic treatments can significantly bolster your overall health. So let’s take a look at how both exercise and nutrition – when working together with chiropractic care – can contribute to a long, healthy life.

Exercise and Chiropractic Care

In a 2012 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers found that medication was the least effective treatment when it came to treating neck pain. What was the most effective? Exercise and chiropractic treatments.

The study followed 272 patients with neck pain over 12 weeks and the results concluded that 32 percent of participants were pain free with chiropractic care, 30 percent were pain free with exercise, and only 13 percent were pain free with medication.

So imagine the results if you combined both chiropractic care and exercise to relieve your pain!

Exercise is an essential factor to keep your body strong and functioning properly. It builds and strengthens supportive muscles as well as improving your posture, flexibility, range of motion, circulation, and even digestion. Regular exercise can also help keep pain from starting in the first place.

Along with chiropractic care, consider hitting the gym to strengthen the neck and shoulder muscles that often cause chronic neck pain. Specific exercises such as dumbbell shrugs, one-arm rows, upright rows, reverse flyes, and lateral raises will target those muscles and reduce pain.

Nutrition and Chiropractic Care

A chiropractor takes a holistic approach to healing, wanting to improve a patient’s overall quality of life as well as alleviate their pain. For this reason, it makes sense that proper nutrition can only improve your level of well-being.

When we have a poor diet, we feel it in every part of our body. We’re tired, slow, achy, and we just don’t feel well. Also, let’s not forget the slew of health issues that can arise from a poor diet: diabetes, heart disease, obesity, allergies, and so on.

A nutritious diet, on the other hand, provides your body with everything it needs to function properly, which usually means more energy and less overall pain.

Depending on your chiropractic issues, a change in diet can improve your symptoms. For example, if you want to reduce pain you might start by reducing inflammation in your body. This can be done with an anti-inflammatory diet that removes corn, wheat, dairy, and soy. By targeting your body in this way, you’re giving it the proper foundation for healing itself. Then, when you add in chiropractic care to combat your specific pain concerns, your body will be more receptive to the treatment.

Along with diet, nutritional supplements can also be used to ensure you’re receiving the appropriate amounts of essential vitamins and minerals your body needs to function.

Don’t forget about water, either! Water is a crucial part of good nutrition. It keeps your body hydrated and helps flush out toxins that can affect your body’s overall health.

  • " Have been adjusted by over 50 chiros in my life and Dr Craig is right up there with the best. His method of relaxing each client (hydro-jet-bed then massage) before the adjustment really helps. There is also a physical therapist with his own therapy room to help get your range of motion back like he did for me. VERY REASONABLE pricing and VERY flexible hours SO PLEASE be nice and try to avoid his lunch hour so he and his staff can eat because the poor guy refuses to say no. "
