Why Chiropractic Is Great for Treating Work Injuries

Why Chiropractic Is Great for Treating Work Injuries

We spend a large portion of our day, week, month, and year at work. With so much time spent in one place, it’s no surprise that injuries on the job are common.

In 2015, there were around 2.9 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported by private industry employers. Although the workplace injury rate is declining – there were 48,000 more nonfatal injuries and illnesses reported in 2014 – workers still have to deal with the effects and treatment of an injury.

While many are quick to go to a doctor and consider surgery or medication if recommended, chiropractic care might be a better option depending on your specific injury.

Let’s look at the most common workplace injuries and how chiropractic care can help your healing process.

The Most Common Work Injuries

Accidents and injuries can happen at any time when you’re working, but if you’re aware of the most common injuries, you might be able to prevent them from happening.

Here are 7 of the most common work injuries:

  • Overexertion injuries. These types of injuries involve overexerting yourself when you’re lifting, pushing, holding, pulling, carrying, or throwing, which can result in strains, sprains, and tears.
  • Slipping/tripping. These easily preventable injuries include tripping over something on the floor or slipping on a slick or wet surface.
  • Falling from heights. Another common injury includes people falling from ladders, roofs, and stairs.
  • Non-falling reaction injuries. If you slip or trip but don’t fall, your reaction might cause muscle injuries or other body trauma.
  • Falling object injuries. Sometimes you’re not the one falling, but something is falling onto you. Regardless of whether a co-worker drops something or an object falls from a shelf, head injuries can be serious.
  • Walking into injuries. If you walk, run, or bump into a wall, door, cabinet, window, table, chair, or pretty much anything solid, you could injure multiple places on your body.
  • Repetitive motion injuries. Doing the same motion over and over again, such as typing or cleaning, can cause muscle and tendon strain, pinched nerves, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other injuries.

How Chiropractic Care Can Heal Work Injuries

Many of the most common work injuries result in musculoskeletal injuries, which is what chiropractors specialize in. Back and neck issues; headaches caused by tension; muscle, ligament, and tendon strains; numbness, tingling, or pain in your extremities; and numerous other work injuries can be effectively and naturally treated with the help of a chiropractor.

Chiropractic care involves treating the whole body to make sure the body is functioning properly, so it can begin healing itself. A chiropractor might use these common treatment methods for your workplace injury:

  • Manipulative therapy. This is where the chiropractor uses manual adjustments to properly align the spine, which results in improved functionality, flexibility, and range of motion.
  • Electric stim therapy. If you’re experiencing muscle pain and spasms, then electric stim therapy – contracting muscles with low frequency pulses of electricity – might be beneficial.
  • Massage therapy. Massage can be a great way to reduce stress and tension, relieve muscles, and manage pain from a work injury.

Depending on your specific work injury and symptoms, your experienced Florida chiropractor will be able to determine the best treatment plan to get you and your body healthy, so you can return to work feeling better than ever. Reach out today to schedule an appointment.

  • " Have been adjusted by over 50 chiros in my life and Dr Craig is right up there with the best. His method of relaxing each client (hydro-jet-bed then massage) before the adjustment really helps. There is also a physical therapist with his own therapy room to help get your range of motion back like he did for me.
